Tournament welcome letter
In an effort to maximize the number of schools that can participate, we are limiting most schools to two teams per school. Some exceptions will be made for teams traveling from long distances. You will indicate on the on-line registration form if your school is interested in bringing an additional team, should space for a third team become available. We are planning on capping participation at 45 teams.
We will be running all 23 events. To do this, we are asking schools to sign up to run at least one event. This will include making the test, with key and providing the people needed to run the event. In most cases, we will be able to provide the lab and event testing items necessary (balances, microscopes, glassware, etc). In the registration form there is a place to sign up for the top three events you wish to run. Final assignments will be made by September 24th.
Final electronic copies of the tests are requested to be delivered to us, along with an answer key, by Oct 25th, 2018 (contact Wes if an extension is needed). This will allow us to verify the accuracy and quality of all tests administered then make the necessary physical copies. We will put all tests and answer keys on the tournament website: http://www.waltonscienceolympiad.com/index.php/div-c-tournament/ after the competition takes place.
Our invitational will follow an Open format. This means that the registration of a “team” gives you a spot in each event. You will be free to send whomever you like, from any of your teams, to participate in any event. As such, we will be awarding individual event medals only, with no awards for team placement. Our goal is for this event to be as useful as possible in preparing our students for their competitions in the Spring.
The invitational committee will send you an email by September 24th letting you know if your team is included in the invitational, on a waiting list, or if you may register an additional team.
The cost of the tournament is $75 per team and payment is due by October 1st, with no refunds given after that date. Please do not send payment until you receive a confirmation email. Your confirmation e-mail will include payment details as well as a link to the invitational website with the schedule and other tournament information.
We will have pizzas available for preorder as well as concessions on-site throughout the day. Information about ordering pizzas will be provided after registration closes.
